Unit Overview
The College Essay is a unique opportunity for students to add their voice to the numbers, the grades, and other details that complete their applications. Students should see this essay as an opportunity to share who they are. In this unit, we will focus on crafting stories that really show who we are rather than tell. We will see examples of superior writing both from professional writers as well as model college essays. By the end of the unit, students will have completed a final College Essay. Students essays will be strengthened by thorough editing, revision, and constant feedback from peers and teachers. The skills from this unit however -- crafting stories, expressing oneself, showing rather than telling, editing and revising -- will serve students far beyond this one essay.
